Last week, Housing and Planning Minister Alok Sharma officially opened the UK’s first ‘plot shop’. Located in Bicester’s Pioneer Square, the shop will sell plots of land on the Graven Hill site to people who want to build their own homes. It will also make it easier for potential builders to access expert advice, and help spearhead custom and self-build as a mainstream choice for aspiring homeowners.
Speaking after cutting the ribbon the MP for Reading West commented: “We need to get creative with how we build houses in this country. With the opening of the UK’s first ‘plot shop’, the journey to building your own home can now start on the High Street”.
Graven Hill, the vision of Conservative-controlled Cherwell District Council will be, when complete, the largest self-build development in the country. Spanning over 190 hectares on Bicester’s old Ministry of Defence site, it will create a community of 1900 homes.
To date, over 80% of Graven Hill plots released in Phase 1a have been sold. Plots are released for purchase on a rolling basis and throughout the build, will be made available to residents or employees in the Cherwell District ahead of the national market. Space is also being created for commercial development, due to start in 2019. To register your interest visit: www.gravenhill.co.uk or pop into the store today.
