Liberal Democrat-controlled Oxfordshire County Council is spending thousands removing our national flag from lamp posts, citing increased safety risks during the darker Winter months.
Councillor Ian Harwood responded, “I am astonished to see the Council spend a small fortune removing flags while our roads are (still) full of potholes and are currently becoming increasingly unsafe because gritters aren’t being deployed. Residents deserve basic services before cosmetic gestures; right now, the priorities look completely upside down.”
Conservative spokesman for Banbury Ruscote, Koppany Nagy, added, “The steep roads around Ruscote are becoming increasingly unsafe due to untreated carriageways, not people flying flags from lamp posts.”
