Cllr Eddie Reeves launches 'Fix the Sink Hole Potholes' Petition

Having received several complaints from local residents, Leader of the Opposition on Oxfordshire County Council and first-time candidate for Cropredy & Hook Norton, Cllr Eddie Reeves, has launched a petition calling on the Council to make good on the damage done by HGV and other vehicles following the excess traffic on rural roads affected by the A361 diversion. Roads around Wardington and Cropredy especially badly affected by the diversionary traffic.

Commenting on the situation, Eddie said:

"Residents from Wardington, Cropredy, Claydon, Mollington and the Bourtons have complained about the state of local roads following the damage caused by HGV and other heavy traffic.

"I have also been asked how the sink hole was allowed to happen on major road like the A361. Whilst everyone is grateful to the Highways engineers for repairing it before Christmas, reasonable people are beginning to wonder if it wasn't in fact preventable with better ongoing maintenance.

"The roads along the diversionary route - and others that nonetheless bore the brunt of the extra traffic - have been badly hit, especially along the kerbside of some of the narrower routes.

"I am six foot tall, and I have literally stood a pothole by Broadmoor Bridge outside Cropredy halfway up my shins, while local farmers have told me about HGVs carving lumps into the road that were never designed to take such traffic.

"It's time for the County Council to bump these roads up its maintenance programme. No-one expects them to be perfect, but some of the roads in question are in an extremely poor state of repair. It's time for action."

Please sign the petition here to add your name so that Eddie can make his case for the repair of our local roads.
